It’s been quite a while since I’ve done one of my musical journey posts. I am picking up where I left off…
The year is an ominous one: 1999
We were on full-scale alert for the dreaded ‘Millenium Bug‘ which was apparently going to make planes fall out of the sky or something equally nightmarish, but nothing ever happened.
Musically speaking, it wasn’t the best year, at least as far as the UK charts were concerned, as they were inundated with way too many insipid pop acts that I will refrain for even naming here. The Britpop explosion of a few years back was long gone, but good music, was still out there, you just had to dig a little deeper to find it.
My choice for 1999 is Kula Shaker’s Mystical Machine Gun from their second album Peasants, Pigs & Astronauts, which reached number 9 in the UK Album charts.
I’ll leave you with a bit of trivia: Lead vocalist Crispian Mills has recently directed A Fantastic Fear of Everything, starring the hilarious Simon Pegg. Out in cinemas now.
