On Friday 14 September, Ravens In Paris played the iconic Barfly in Camden, a proper dark atmospheric venue with a stereotypical sticky floor. The only thing missing was a cloud of cigarette mist above the audience, like in the olden days, but that didn’t take away from the great feel of the room.
I reviewed the band’s debut EP Dirty Little Secret here not too long ago, and was intrigued to discover if they would be able to capture the explosive energy I’d heard on the record. They certainly did not let me down. Their performance was tight and electrifying, with every song sounding as good as the EP but with the additional power a live performance generates. Definitely one of those bands you must catch live at least once, though I suspect once it’s all it will take for you to become hooked. Not a bad thing at all.
You can download the band’s EP by clicking on the photo below, which will take you to their downloading page.
Lastly, check out their fantastic video of By Candlelight, which captures that great energy I had the fortune of seeing live.

Gawd, I’m so not in the know. Grew up on British bands but am still very caught in the 80s, I’m afraid, so I’m grateful to you for exposing me to new talent. I don’t see enough concerts in London…first one I’d gone to in probably two or three years was an American band – Real Estate – at Electric Ballroom in Camden. A very mellow New Jersey group that sound more like they hail from southern California, the sort of music that’d be nice to play low in the background as you sit with a beer on the beach (not that even California would allow that…).
Mellow would put me to sleep lol. I forget you’re in London, so yes, keep an eye on my blog. I only feature cool talented artist I personally like, so if you’re taste is similar to mine. You’ll like this.
awesomeness! the ep is out and of course I’m broke… LOL! somebody pay me!
I know, I’m broke too (never mind I got paid only a week ago sigh). You can pay what you can for it, but I wanted to give a decent amount of money, so will have to wait until next payday myself.
I like this one, Alannah, although my ability of mis-hearing words in songs came into play and I was singing along with ‘back in the light…’! It was an atmospheric video though!
And, it’s been years since I was in a place with a sticky floor… that took me back!
yeah, the sticky floor, that doesn’t happen much anymore for some reason, but Barfly had it, and it kind of added to the atmosphere. Lol about the misheard lyrics, think we’ve all done one of those at one time or another
