It’s been a while…
In his classic song ‘Changes’ Bowie sings: Every time I thought I’d got it made
It seemed the taste was not so sweet.
That is how I have felt about this blog. Every time I started a new version of it, I thought that was it, but I’ve yet to find a comfortable niche. For a while, I even got tired of blogging, even leaving my Friday Flash series with the cute gothy Lizzy, hanging. I am sorry for that.
The blog, as you will see, has a new look, including a recent photo of yours truly. It also has a new name, In the Night, which is to be the name of my novel, the title itself was taken from my favourite Bauhaus song.
The title was also perfect for this blog and me, because I’m a night person, and the other reason for the change, is that I am hoping to start band reviews soon, and most gigs, happen, after dark, at least local gigs in London.
Right, enough rambling. That’s it for now. I’ll leave you with the two songs that reflect the blog’s changes…
Bowie, as Ziggy Stardust, singing a rather apt song that’s given this post its title.
and my favourite dark boys, Bauhaus, singing In the Night

Hi Alannah, I like your changes!
I like reading what you have to say, whatever you write about, so music is fine with me… I don’t think I follow another music blog at present so you’re unique in that regard with me anyway!
I’m trying to find my place in the Blogworld too… At the moment, I’m trying to find the right gravatar thingy (which is proving very difficult!) and I’m toying with the idea of changing the name of my blog.
I’ve had a break from blogging for a few weeks, and recently returned refreshed and renewed and was instantly thrown into a week of chaos as I was caught up in a ‘little’ technical hitch WordPress had… still, that’s sorted now.
Good luck with your book, and good luck with your blog, just do what you enjoy!
Have a good weekend, Alannah!
Hi Tom! As always, it’s lovely to hear from you. At least you’re in the UK, so some of my music posts may be of interest, if you like going to gigs. It’s hard to find a niche in Blogworld, isn’t it, but if you keep experimenting and trying new things, you’re bound to find the ONE thing you enjoy the most.
A break from social media, is always a good thing. I find it helps to clear the cobwebs from the mind.
Sorry to hear about the WordPress-related glitch but glad it’s all sorted now.
Hope your weekend is a good one too
I can’t even begin to count the number of incarnations my online presence has been through… Kind of like shopping for a pair of pants. Sometimes you grab the perfect pair right off the bat, but sometimes you *have* to try on every single one in the store before you find a pair that’s just *right*!
Yeah, that’s exactly how I feel. I started blogging, because I was told one has to, as a writer, but I hated writing about writing. I hated telling people all my ups and downs about my novel, and I started to hate it, so I began, slowly but surely, with talking only about music. That’s not to say I will never discuss other things, but I am trying to find where I fit, and I think, music is it. Thanks for your support
I love it! Change is good! So cool to learn your novel’s title – it’s absolutely perfect for encapsulating both that and the band reviews. And I empathize with the blogging. Obviously, my interest in the Monkey ebbs and flows, and I’m horrible about keeping up with others’ blogs…and it’s been a while since I’ve been disciplined with my creative writing; too busy editing others or writing the commercial stuff that gets me paid. Yet even though I’m not a blog follower with the best attendance rate, always know that I’m loyal to yours no matter its new incarnation. It takes trial and error to make it just right. And I have to say, you entered my thoughts over the weekend when I saw this in the news: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-york-north-yorkshire-18367300. How awesome is that?!!
Thank you my lovely simian friend
I thought it would be a great name for the blog as well, since gigs happen after dusk. In the night…
I’m horrible too, with keeping up with blogs, lately, I’ve not kept up with any but that’s mostly because I wasn’t even online much at all. I’ve even missed yours, so I’m looking to catching up.
Thank you for your support, and for sticking with me. I know it won’t be everyone’s cup of tea to only have music talked about, though I will still do my novel updates, but I don’t want to talk about anything, I found myself dreading the idea of writing posts, and that is how I knew, I had to stop and think about things.
I LOVE that BBC link you sent me, and vaguely remember reading that actually. Most amusing indeed (I’d love to own it, very cool…)
Love the title and I agree 100% on the festival front. I almost went to one a few uyears ago (they had HIM AND Placebo!!! *siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiggghhhhhhh* Brian and Ville……) but then my ride flaked (it was in Kentucky if I remember which is some distance from here) and that was my only attempt.
Good luck with the novel!
Thank you dear. Yeah, that would have been a great gig. Shame you couldn’t go. I can’t hack those music festivals. I didn’t even enjoy big stadium gigs, some of which, I did attend, back in the 80′s but I prefer to enjoy a band in a smaller venue, for you get to experience them in a different way, more intimate.
Thank you, I am plotting the new premise for the novel, I keep changing it, but I’ll get there in the end
Glad you like it. Originally, it was going to be called Shadowplay, like the Joy Division song, then, I found out there was two fiction novels with that title already. In the night is perfect, for Julian as himself, and his rock persona Brandon, roam the streets, late at night. Most of the novel is at night anyway…and the glittering lights of Soho are part of the scene.
That sounds like a resolution – a title to provide the setting, the scenery for the story. It feels like the wrapping paper on a present – a tiny glimpse of what might be in there!
