A Musical Journey – 1996

In 1996,  The Prodigy released their album The Fat of the Land from which my chosen track Breathe is from.

Considered one of the pioneers of the Big beat genre, the band’s music has been described as dance-punk, alternative dance or electropunk. In my opinion, their sound is a great combination of punk and electronica and remains distinctively English.

Check out the atmospheric video below, featuring both Keith Flint and Maxim on vocals.

  1. I remember their song Firestarter – used to love that one! :D ’96 was a good year for music!

  2. Prodigy – hell yeah!! The Fat of the Land was one of THE albums for me back in 1997 (not exactly an early adopter, am I ;) )
Although I had songs that I adored (and still adore) a bit more (like ie Diesel Power, Firestarter, Narajan), Breathe is such a great tune. Opening itunes as we speak …

    • Narajan is awesome, Kula Shaker’s Crispin Mills sings those vocals by the way. I think they’re one of the best bands to come out of the UK in the nineties. Breathe is probably my favourite track of theirs, though I have many. Glad you like them too :-)

  3. I’m not sure if I like The Prodigy or not, Alannah. I never used to, when I first heard them but I think that was due to their Firestarter song. Oddly, this one has a similar sound, but I like it now. Maybe my tastes have changed…

    • I can understand they may not be everyone’s taste. I think they’re fantastic and their combination of genres shows true creativity, something that is sorely needed in the UK music scene these days.
